Speed cameras plan for bridge

SPEED cameras could be introduced on the Forth Road Bridge to prevent vehicles from speeding over the structure when ‘mini-bridges’ are in place.
The Forth Estuary Transport Authority (Feta) plans to build two l80m-long temporary ramps over the bridge roadway, allowing workers to rebuild worn-out components while traffic flows overhead.
And it was suggested at Feta’s board meeting on Friday that using average speed cameras would be the best way of ensuring that drivers don’t speed over the ramps, which will be introduced in 2009 and will have a 30mph limit.
The work will take place on each carriageway over consecutive years with ramps positioned under each of the bridge’s towers.
