West Fife's X-Files reveal UFO sightings
By Siew Peng Lee
THE truth is out there... perhaps even over the skies of West Fife, according to the latest Ministry of Defence figures.
The most comprehensive MoD reports on sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were made available to the public in mid-May, and cover sightings compiled from 1981 to the present.
The eight files contain details of thousands of sightings, ranging from dazzling lights and star-shaped objects in the sky to little green men.
The files have been released under the Freedom of Information Act, and more than another 150 files will be made available at the National Archives.
And according to the figures, interplanetary objects have been spotted in West Fife – in the past 10 years alone, there have been half a dozen sightings of UFOs, with Dunfermline and Rosyth recording two sightings each.
A sighting in Dunfermline in January 1997 reports "an orange glow in the sky" and a "small plane-sized, cigar-shaped object" that "descended quickly".
There were two other sightings that year – an object, "larger than an aircraft", with a "very bright light which was like a V-shape, seven-eight lights each side, moving towards the northwest" was reported in North Queensferry in July.
A colourful object which changed colours "from purple, red, yellow and green" was seen in Rosyth in December. It appeared "stationary for long periods, then disappeared".
In April 1998, "one large star-like object" that changed colours was spotted in Kelty, and in October 1999, a "star-shaped object" with a "very bright light" was seen in Rosyth.
No activity was recorded in West Fife again until 2005, when a "black triangle" was noted in Dunfermline.
