THE new Asda in Dalgety Bay was officially opened on Monday, attracting huge crowds of visitors and customers.
An estimated 550 people turned up for the opening, with queues starting to form around 8am and eventually snaking round the building down to the car park at Dobbies Garden Centre next door.
Hundreds of black and green balloons were released in the celebrations, launched by Aberdour athlete and aspiring Olympian Nick Smith, who declared the store open at 10am by running through a giant till roll.
Entertainment was laid on by a balloon modeller and face-painter, as well as the Kingdom Brass Band.
The first customer through the door was Janet Kinnear, of Couston Place, Dalgety Bay, who, along with 199 other customers, received an Asda bag filled with an array of goodies, including juices, cereals, breads and sweet treats.
Store manager Andrew Midgley said the atmosphere had been "absolutely fantastic".
He said, "The buzz and general feeling has been amazing from colleagues and the customers. We were absolutely mobbed on the first day.
"Customers have been coming up and thanking us – they knew the categories but I don't think they were expecting so much range and choice.
"We've just had massive interest. The way things are going, we're on track to smashing our sales target for the week."
