Rosyth family see ghost in Kelty woods

A ROSYTH man is in a state of shock after stumbling across what he believes is the ghost of an old miner while out walking with his family in Blairadam Forest, Kelty.

John Wilson (32), a joiner, of Daniel Place, had the spooky experience while visiting the forest with his wife and three children when they stopped near an abandoned mine to take family photographs.

Mr Wilson said, “I put the pictures on the computer but never looked at them for a year.

"It was only when I went to sort them out a week ago that I noticed something odd.

"I went to crop the pictures to get rid of the rubbish and I noticed something odd in the tree line behind the kids.”

John is adamant that there was no-one else present at the time though does recall his dog was greatly agitated at nothing in particular, which at the time the family put down to an unseen rabbit in the bushes.

He reckons the photos appear to reveal the presence of a long-deceased miner and, although not a big believer in the afterlife, what John saw in the photograph has certainly made him think twice.

“I think it looks like on old miner wearing a flat cap and an old coat.

"I’m not a big believer in ghosts but I was going through my head trying to explain it and it’s all I think it could be.”

John is familiar with the area, having played there as a child and remembers vividly searching for the entrance to the mines which closed in the early 20th century.

“I used to stay in Kelty and spent a lot of time in those woods," he said.

"I know that’s near where the old Blairenbathie mines used to be.

"I used to go looking for the entrance shaft when I was a kid and I’m sure kids do the same these days.”

John is under strict instructions from his wife, Karen, to keep the photograph hidden from his three children, Holly (11), Derryn (5) and Kyle (3).

“My wife told me not to show it to the kids as it might scare them.

"They are still quite young to be dealing with such things.”

Is that the picture in question because all i can see is tree's! Spend alot of time in the woods mountain biking and have never seen nothing remotely ghostly or cat like for that matter!

I can see it - I don't think it needs blowing up. To the left of the arrow right on the edge of the frame there looks to be a man. His arm and the two dark circles of his eyes are the most visible elements.

Although personally I think it's more likely to be some sort of glitch with the memory card!

Agree with Naz, I can see it too. It\'s almost as if he\'s sitting on something with his left hand in his lap.\r\n\r\nNot sure if it\'s just an optical illusion or not, but I can see why he would think it\'s a miner.

I can see it, I can also see an owl and a cartoon alligator, and if it is a ghost of a miner he seems to be holding his crotch.

I first got the impression of someone walking away from camera slightly stooped over, wearing a brown top. Then I saw slightly above, what appears to be a white face looking at the camera. I think it really is a trick of the light/shadows. Interesting though.

After downloading the photo and enhancing it in Photoshop, there does indeed appear to be a man standing in the trees.

It could be simulacra (An image or representation. An unreal or vague semblance.) in which our brains see the branches and the shading as something else, in this case a man.

Either that or it's a ghost.

A lot of the comments above are obviously from people who cannot see it. I looked at the bigger photo on http://i36.tinypic.com/2nk15hh.jpg and it is really clear. His hand is not on his crotch (as mentioned above), his left arm is by his side and it looks like his right is holding a tool over his right shoulder like a pick or a shovel or simmilar. the more you look the more you see it. It helps to tilt your screen downwards a bit too.

We had a look at this spot today and it is starting to thrown up a number of interesting things.\r\n\r\nWe would love to hear from anyone who knows the history of the mines etc. We are particularly interested to find out more about an area with the wooden bridge over the burn, about 300 yards up the track opposite the location where the picture has been taken. \r\n\r\nPlease feel free to check out any more about this or email your comments on the forum page at www.fullmooninvestigations.co.uk .

The hand is very clear, but he is standing behind a tree trunk which some folks might take for his own trunk.

Hope the photo digits can be analysed for history of change or no change.

The picture is very pixellated, obviously due to being cropped and magnified. The line of the ghost's sleeve near the wrist area is a bit too well-defined and sharp though, in comparison to everything else.

I have seen the original photo and it really does appear to be a full apparition of an old miner, well done John, Evette fielding will be so envious. Most Haunted Team have tried for over a decade to capture a full apparition on camera to no avail. Dunfermline Press should publish the blown up version in colour....it\'s spooky.

Yes I can see the man, his left arm comes straight down and out from his body, he looks as though he his wearing very old working clothes, and also appears to be wearing dark glasses, I can also see like his work piece bag hanging to the left of him, if this is genuine then well done you. To begin with all I could see was trees, you really have to look closely, or use a magnifier.

John, I have made a thread on this on the bad psychics website who are a highly sceptical bunch. I hope you can contact the website and perhaps find a way of providing the original photograph to determine it's authenticity. Some believe it to be a cut and paste job. The website will assure you the childrens faces will be protected.

here is a paste of the thread.
