Sunset Song adaptation at Carnegie Hall
WEST FIFE residents – especially Gordon Brown – looking to be cheered up in the current economic doom and gloom could do worse than head to the Carnegie Hall next month.
For a humorous adaptation of the PM’s favourite book, Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s Sunset Song, will be performed by a Glasgow-based theatre company.
Otter Pie, a “quirky take on Scottishness and happiness”, comes east after enjoying a previous sold-out run at Glasgow’s Tramway theatre.
In the last three years, the Fish and Game theatre company has performed pieces in London, New York, Melbourne and even Nova Scotia.
A spokesperson for the company said, “It’s a very funny and accessible show. It deals with big themes but is not po-faced.”
“It bridges the gap between mainstream and experimental theatre by questioning tradition and convention while being unashamedly entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny.
“I’m not sure if Gordon Brown will have the time to turn up to see the show these days, but it’s the perfect tonic.”
Gibbon’s elegy on crofting life was voted the best Scottish novel of all time in a nationwide poll in 2005, announced at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
Otter Pie will be performed at the Carnegie Hall on Sunday 16th November at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8.50. For details, call the box office on 602302.
