Fife’s first ever dedicated environmental awards are launched

The GBF awards have been introduced to highlight green achievements made by companies, of all sizes, operating in Fife during the past two years.

In recognising and rewarding companies that have introduced new initiatives and projects for better sustainable business practice, the Green Business Fife Awards aim to promote greater awareness of good practice and environmental innovation throughout Fife.

Audrey Ellis of Muir Construction Ltd, a member of the Green Business Fife Steering Group, explained that the Awards also have considerable commercial significance. “The Green Business Fife network is all about helping local businesses achieve resource efficiency gains which will boost their competitiveness, reduce costs and minimise their environmental impact. We also believe that sustainable development will stimulate new business opportunities in the emerging environmental industries sector. We think that Fife is leading the way in Scotland in this kind of initiative and hope that the Awards will put Fife on the map as a place to do business in a sustainable and competitive way.”

Green Business Fife is especially keen to encourage small businesses, or those who have recently introduced new practices, to enter, as there will be a special category for Best Newcomer.

All the Awards will be judged by independent experts in environmental and business good practice, so winning will create significant marketing advantage for companies. Short listed entries will also be submitted to the VIBES awards (http://www.vibes.org.uk) for Scotland-wide recognition.

The Awards will be presented at a gala dinner in the Fairmont St Andrews Hotel on 20th March 2009, sponsored by Tullis Russell.

Businesses entering the awards can also achieve recognition by signing up to the Dunfermline Press's Sustainability Roll of Honour.
