SPECULATION about the proposed take-over of the former Hyundai plant in Halbeath falling victim of the credit crunch is unfounded, according to the site's owner.

A spokesperson for Freescale said, "There's been no change in the situation. Discussions with the interested party are still on-going."

US-based Solar energy firm Zoom Diversified is considering moving to the site which has been lying unoccupied since it was built in the late 1990s.

Given the current economic climate, speculation over the viability of the project is perhaps inevitable.

The talks have been going longer than officials at Fife Council had expected but the Press reported recently that the mood remained positive locally.

Earlier this month there was a report that the sale of the site had gone through but this was also denied by Freescale and Scottish Enterprise.
