A NEW generation of Carnegie swimmers came of age in the first weekend of the East District Age Group Championships in Glenrothes.
With many of the more renowned squad members having prequalified for semi-finals of the shorter distances or recovering from injury, it was an opportunity for the younger swimmers to take centre stage.
Performance of the meet was 11-year-old Mark Szaranek, who dominated his age group taking a maximum hat-trick of gold medals along with another brace of East District records. He won gold in the boys’ 10-11 years 200m freestyle along with taking both gold and East District records in the 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke.
Alongside Szaranek’s performance, his team mates and training colleagues put in an impressive performance with four of the six placings in the boys’ 10-11 200m individual medley taken up by Carnegie swimmers and five of the first seven in the 200m freestyle event.
