DALGETY BAY race ace Gordon Shedden was left cursing his luck after a rocky race day at Rockingham in the British Touring Cars on Sunday.

Team Halfords driver Shedden managed a fourth and sixth-place finish in his new Honda Civic but was sent spinning from race two following a first-lap accident.

The weekend leaves Shedden, who finished fourth in his maiden tin-top season last year, 10th in the drivers standings on 16 points after two race weekends.

Shedden told Press Sport this week, “I can’t buy any luck at the moment – I’d rather have no luck than the bad luck I’m getting.”

The opening race saw Shedden work his way up from eighth and avoid an oil spill caused by Fiona Leggate to overtake team mate Matt Neal and finish fourth.

However, Shedden’s second race lasted no longer than the opening lap, when Neal was hit by Colin Turkington’s BMW, ironically causing him to spin into Shedden, with the West Fifer’s car suffering extensive damage to the side and suspension.

The mechanics worked their magic for Shedden to make the grid for the third race and the driver repaid them with a second top 10 finish in sixth.

“The first race was absolutely fine but the second race was just carnage,” Shedden said. “Matt and I were both caught up in it and it was just madness, really.

“The positive thing I can take from this weekend is that I managed to get a few points. I had an awful start to last year too but I’ve probably got more points this year than I had at the same stage last year.

“We’ve still got a lot to do. We don’t have the pace of the Seats, Vauxhalls and BMWs but by hell, we are trying and we’re not a million miles away.

“It’s taken us a bit of time to get on top of the car but when we do, hopefully, it will be a rocket ship.

“It’s a bit lively at the back and it’s a bit of a rocky ride but we’ll get there.

“It’s got the potential and the guys have got two weeks to get things sorted for Thruxton (6th May).”
