Team pays for lack of discipline
Gala 30, Dunfermline 22
DUNFERMLINE produced one of their strongest performances of the season against league leaders Gala on Saturday.
But they failed to secure a point largely because indiscipline resulted in them playing with 14 men for 70 minutes.
For the third week running, Dunfermline started with a bang, scoring two tries in the opening 15 minutes. Dan Fluker showed good strength to score the opener and then terrific team play ended with Sky Laurie scoring for the fourth consecutive week. Stevie McColl added one conversion.
But with Dunfermline looking in control of things, Tommy McCall was yellow-carded for retaliation and then, just as he was about to come back on, captain Keith Dickinson was red-carded for stamping.
This had a huge effect on the game and, while Dunfermline battled bravely for the rest of the game, too much was asked of them. Dunfermline went on to lose four scores, replying with only one from Wayne Barr – admittedly the try of the match.
A late missed penalty attempt by McColl ruled out the losing bonus point which would have been richly deserved.
This weekend Dunfermline host bottom club Murrayfield Wanderers.
