DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club saw their promotion hopes almost certainly disappear on Saturday when they ran into a well-drilled Peebles side who turned out to be simply a little more clinical than their hosts.
Defences were on top in the first half and it was 20 minutes before the first points were on the board thanks to a piece of opportunism from the
Peebles full back which saw him chip, chase and collect his own kick before touching down.
Dunfermline could not add the finishing touches to good possession and had to accept a penalty kick as their only points of the half.
The second half started poorly for Dunfermline, conceding a scrum penalty in front of the posts for an easy three points for Peebles.
However, they scored a brilliant try when full back Scott Swankie made a 20-metre break down the blindside before the ball was moved to the opposite wing where winger Andy Brown powered another 20-metres up his wing. From this tackle the ball was moved across the pitch for Will Allman to flop over the line with the Peebles defence in disarray.
Dunfermline continued to chase the game but they gave Peebles too much easy possession and the visitors capitalised to score two quick tries to put the game out of reach, before adding an interception in the closing stages to secure the bonus point win.
This weekend Dunfermline travel to Irvine (kick-off 2pm).
The club’s P4 team were in action on Sunday at Howe of Fife and had wins over Stirling (5-2), Glenrothes (7-2) and Howe of Fife (6-1) and drew with Ellon (5-5).
