Dunfermline 42 Ardrossan 10

DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club put three weeks of gloom behind them on Saturday with an impressive seven-try demolition of Ardrossan, despite playing the last 30 minutes with 13 men.

The first 10 minutes of the match saw Ardrossan start well with them having all the possession and territory but strong Dunfermline defence kept them at bay.

Then with their first attack of the match Dunfermline showed some of the attacking qualities they have been lacking this season. Strong possession, quick ball and sound passing allowed Wayne Barr to stroll over for the first of Dunfermline's seven tries.

More Ardrossan possession with no return was again compounded when Dunfermline moved up the field and saw young wing Grant Fraser sprint over for the second.

Then a quick fire double, one from the impressive back row forward Jocky Carr the other from Andy Brown, saw Dunfermline get to the turn with the bonus point in the bag of 22-3.

The start of the second half saw Dunfermline almost shoot themselves in the foot, albeit with a huge helping hand from the referee.

An innocuous incident involving Dan Fluker resulted him being sent off for an apparent spear tackle, then two minutes later second row Gareth McColl was also red-carded, this time for what the ref saw as a dangerous late tackle.

Despite this Dunfermline scored next, with skipper Scott Swankie, in his new position of openside, scoring his first of the season.

This buoyed the home side and they continued to battle and play expansively despite the two-man difference.

Ardrossan did get some reward for their possession scoring one try only for Dunfermline to respond with two of their own, Andy Brown getting his second and full back Derek Radcliffe scoring with almost his first touch.

Dunfermline travel to Ellon this weekend looking to leapfrog them into fourth with a win.

Dunfermline's two P4 sides reached the semi-finals of the Kinross Tournament.

The first team beat Howe of Fife 7-3 to reach the semis but lost 5-2 to Dundee, Sean Clark and Alexander MacKenzie scoring Dunfermline's tries.

The second team beat Crieff 6-4 but then lost 5-1 to the hosts in their semi-final, Cal Clarke scoring the consolation try.
