DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club finished the year on a high with a convincing five-try victory over Berwick on Saturday.
After the return of some key players Dunfermline were able to show signs of the style of rugby they have been attempting all season scoring four excellent tries.
From the kick-off, Dunfermline showed their intent and while a strong Berwick defence kept them out, it was only a matter of time before they got their first try.
This came through a superb multi-phase attack with the ball eventually ending up on the wing for Sky Laurie to flop over for his eighth try of the season. Stevie McColl converted from the touchline.
The home side continued this style on the back of a good set piece which was testament to hooker Keith Dickinson, who was playing his final game for the club, before heading off to the RAF.
The next two tries scored by Stevie McColl and Graham Lowe respectively were again the result of slick handling and strong contact phases. Again, both were converted by McColl.
It was not until the second half that Dunfermline got their bonus point try. This came from a stolen line out and drive with Laurie again in the right place to gain his second touchdown.
Dunfermline’s final try rounded off a superb individual performance by Stevie McColl in his not so familiar position of full back.
He again converted his own try and while Berwick got a consolation try, Dunfermline showed great appetite throughout the performance to end the year on a high.
Dunfermline’s next fixture is on 5th January away to Morgan. This is followed by an extremely important home fixture against Gala.
