Circuit owner gets to grips with horsepower
FAST circuits and explosive horsepower are all in a day’s work for Knockhill track owner Derek Butcher...and the same can be said about his other hobby.
For the former racing driver is now taming an altogether different beast, namely Charlie Gatecrasher, a 10-year-old shire-cob sports horse.
Derek, who spent 30 years racing motorcycles and cars, is now hooked on horses and competes regularly in eventing competitions throughout Britain.
He even sponsors the Knockhill Horse Power Cross-Country Championships organised by the British Horse Society of Scotland.
“I had a lot of fun competing in cars at some of the UK’s top circuits over 20-plus years” said Derek, who only took up horse riding five years ago.
And the boss of Scotland’s National Motorsports Centre was full of praise for his current circuit horse.
“Having owned a number of horses since starting my new hobby, I can honestly say that Charlie is my favourite and we both get a kick from it,” he finished.
