Rugby trio in Scotland side for Junior Six Nations
DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club youngsters Stevie McColl and Neale Patrick were in the Scotland under-20 side beaten 12-6 by their French counterparts in the Junior Six Nations at Falkirk on Friday night.
On a mixed night for McColl, the back kicked Scotland's two penalties but missed three others which might have turned the game for Scotland.
The French went ahead after just five minutes but Scotland fought back with lock Patrick doing some fine work in the loose.
Following a Scots drive into the French 22, McColl slotted his first penalty but the French built up a 12-3 half-time lead.
McColl missed two penalties either side of the break but he was only denied scoring a crucial try by a high tackle just a stretch away from the line.
The Scots were denied a penalty try but McColl converted the resultant penalty and then missed a longer effort from the 10-yard line as Scotland struggled to get enough ball to threaten a comeback try.
Former Dunfermline player Fraser McKenzie, now of Heriot's, made it three products of the successful Dunfermline youth system in the Scotland XV and all three are also in the squad to face Wales this weekend.
