DUNFERMLINE finally played their twice-postponed fixture against Perthshire on Saturday and it was worth waiting for as they bossed every part of the game.
The home team dominated possession and territory for the whole of the opening 40 minutes and only a mixture of outstanding defence and the continued home team’s problem with their line out allowed Perthshire away with only a 16-point half-time deficit.
Wayne Barr opened the scoring, running a terrific line onto a well-timed Ali O’Connor pass to scythe through the defence for a score near the posts and O’Connor added the conversion.
Three further penalties from man of the match O’Connor were the only further scores but Dunfermline were showing signs of clicking as the half was ending.
Early in the second half Dunfermline got some reward with a brilliant team try that was finished by Barr and converted by O’Connor.
The introduction of debutant prop, 17-year-old Paddy Leonard, meant the average of the front row was now 18 yet still Dunfermline were able to maintain control.
Quick thinking by standoff O’Connor led to Dunfermline’s final try. Looking like he was kicking to touch he quickly tapped to himself and three passes later centre Warren Daly flopped over the line, O’Connor again converting.
Dunfermline now have two away games to finish their season, first up is a trip to Livingston followed by the local derby with Kirkcaldy.
