Dunfermline set to Reign in final
DUNFERMLINE Reign dumped the reigning league champions in dramatic fashion to book a place in the Lothian League final for 2008.
Muir had taken advantage of a lacklustre start by Reign which forced coach James Steel into using his subs bench to inject some life into his team.
However they were comfortably beaten 17-10 in the first quarter although they found some spark with more effective play, leading to 21 points and six different players scoring points. But the defensive intensity was still missing as Muir managed 18 in reply.
Reign resorted to lax defending and stuttering offence, allowing Muir's captain and key player Lacaze to get hot and this flurry enabled Muir to take an 11 point lead into the final quarter.
One positive for Reign has been their desire to fight until the final buzzer and they needed a huge effort as two minutes into the fourth quarter Reign trailed by 15 points.
They switched to a full court press and Jules White, Calum Nicol and Darryl Wood forced errors.
On the offensive end Ross Dawkins stepped up with 8 points, Barry Pringle hit 7 and young gun Calum Nicol chipped in 6 points late on.
Once Reign edged in front there was no looking back and, despite a poor shooting day, they managed to make their key free-throws to seal an excellent victory.
Having defeated last year's champs, Reign now face the 2006 league champs, Edinburgh Kings, in the final on the 5th May at Wester Hailes Education Centre, 8pm tip-off.
Dunfermline have a local derby in the semi-final of the Tayside & Fife Cup against Dunfermline Steel on Tuesday 22nd April at Dunfermline High School, 8.25 tip-off.
