WEST FIFE flyer Gordon Shedden leads the Team Halfords challenge in this season’s British Touring Cars Championship despite a disappointing weekend at Donington Park.

The Dalgety Bay driver is fourth in the latest driver standings but was unable to record a podium finish at the Midlands circuit.

In the opening race Shedden was as high as second at one point but had to make do with a creditable fourth after qualifying in fifth position on the grid.

The second race saw damp conditions pose an extra challenge but Shedden moved to the head of the field from the second row of the grid to lead the race after lap one.

Having dropped down to third he was lucky to avoid a huge accident on lap 10 when he was nudged off the track by Vauxhall’s Tom Onslow-Cole.

Shedden dropped down the order and took the flag in ninth place, giving him pole for race three under the reverse grid rules.

The final race saw the Fifer’s mixed wet tyre gamble fail to pay off as he was unable to challenge as the circuit started to dry out and his tyres went off, leaving him back in 10th.

Shedden told Press Sport, “Overall this was a very disappointing weekend for me, the car had so much potential but the changeable conditions meant the circuit was really difficult to judge.”
