THE Pars’ season may have finished last week but East End hosted a fiercely-fought friendly match on Saturday.
A team of Pars fans playing for the newly-formed Dunfermline Athletic Supporters Club (DASC) team took on bitter rivals Falkirk, known as ‘Bairnfica’, for the DASC Challenge Trophy.
There was no ducking out of tackles in the competitive clash, which ended in a 2-0 victory to Falkirk.
Despite the score there were no hard feelings according to Marvyn Stewart, from the supporters club, who said the game would now become an annual fixture.
“It was a really good match and a terrific day so the scoreline didn’t bother us,” she told Press Sport.
“The Falkirk manager said we should have been four-up at half-time but they tired in the second half.
“We have only been together since August whereas they have been together for about five years.
“Jim Leishman came and did the presentations and there was some good banter between him and the Falkirk fans afterwards.
“We’ve made some really good friends there and they will be hosting the return match next year.
“We’ll play each year at either East End or Falkirk and we’re going to keep it going as a fixture.”
The DASC team formed for a match against their Swedish counterparts before the Pars’ UEFA Cup clash with BK Hacken in Gothenburg at the start of last season.
The Pars fans lost that one 3-2 but have since beaten Livingston twice and Queen of the South, drawn with Raith Rovers and St Johnstone and been defeated by Dundee United fans.
They’ve got more games lined up over the summer against Hibs fans and a Lothian Rangers side and could join a supporters league soon.
“Everyone and their granny wants to play us,” Marvyn said. “We’re so in demand we could be playing every week.”
Proceeds from the game and post-match raffle will be donated by the supporters club to the Pars’ under-19 side.
