Pitreavie athletes on track at Linwood

PITREAVIE AAC’s youngsters put in some excellent performances, despite the wet conditions in the second Young Athletes League match at Linwood on Sunday.

In the under-15 girls, Kirsten Galbraith was in excellent form slashing her personal best for the 200m to finish third in the A event with 26.18 seconds.

Over 800m Kathryn Pennel was involved in another close race, again just being edged out when coming second with a time of 2:21.72. The B team event was won by Michaela Brown in 2:28.71.

In the under-13 girls, Louise Russell was third in the 80m in a time of 11.42.

Russell then tackled the longer sprint of 150m coming third in the A event with 21.51.

Over 800m Eilidh Reid placed third in the A event with 2:38.97 and Rachel Hunter came storming through on the final straight to take the B event with 2:41.13. In the 70m hurdles Sarah Jane Easton, who is still new to the event, ran a great race to place third in a time of 13.18s in the A event.

In the under-13 boys, Ben Potrykus ran a great race to come second in the 1500m A event dipping under 5 minutes for the first time, clocking 4:55.

In the triple jump, there were two excellent performances, Marcus Adams came second in the A event with 11.51m and Allan Smith also came second in the B event with 11.06m.

Francis Smith was in action over the 400m hurdles at the weekend for the Bedford International Games and recorded his best performance of the season, coming fourth in a time of 52.82.

Pitreavie’s Eilidh Child received her Blue Award at the Edinburgh University Sports Union (EUSU) annual awards dinner on Thursday.
