Impressive medal haul for Pitreavie
PITREAVIE athletes returned with a huge medal haul from the weekend’s Scottish Schools Championships, the Scottish under-20 and under-23 championships and junior 3x800m relay championships.
At the schools, Pitreavie picked up three gold, four silver and two bronze medals.
The three gold medalists and Scottish Schools champions for 2008 were all competing in the under- 14 age group. Gerelle Pasquin threw a massive 10.70m in the shot putt, beating her rivals by nearly two metres, Kirsten Galbraith leaped to 5.16m in the long jump, winning by more than half a metre, and Naomi Fox won the 75m hurdles in 12.14secs.
Galbraith added two silvers in the 100m in 12.85s and in the 200m with a time of 26.52s.
Kathryn Pennel recorded a new personal best in the 14-15 age group 800m after finishing second with a time of 2:18.57. In the under-15/17 age group Anthony Young ran his second best time of the year in the 400m with 50.78 to gain his silver. Rose Fagan came third in the under-14 75m hurdles and ran a new personal best to make the final in 12.69. She ran 12.87s to win bronze.
The other bronze medalist was Ross McManus in the 15-17 hammer where he threw 43.63m.
At the Scottish under-20 and under-23 championships Pitreavie won seven gold and four silver medals.
There were two double winners in the sprints. Ryan Oswald successfully defended both his under-20 sprint titles despite carrying a slight niggle in his hamstring. In the 100m he recorded 10.89 and in the 200m he ran a swift 21.57. Stacey Downie equalled this feat in the under-23 sprints, winning the 100m with 12.20 and the 200m title with 24.88.
Eilidh Child was in record-breaking form, winning the under-23 400m hurdles in a new championship best performance of 57.30. In second place was clubmate Stephanie Walker, in only her second ever 400m hurdles, in 62.52.
Michael Burns improved his 400m hurdles personal best, winning the under-23 title with 57.11. Stuart Chisholm equalled his personal best in the under-23 pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.60m.
The three other medals were won by Craig Robertson in the under-23 800m in 1:53.06, Caitlyn Mackie in the under-20 hammer with 49.53m and Stephanie Walker added another silver in the 100m hurdles in 14.67.
Craig Skiffington smashed his lifetime bests for both the 100m and 200m in the under 20 age group, recording 11.51s and 23.26s respectively.
In the under 15 girls 3x800m, the team of Michaela Brown, Katie Reid and Kathryn Pennel were second in the final.
