St Columba's High pupil has a shot at athletics glory
ON TRACK: Gerelle (left) and Rose show off their medals
GERELLE PASQUIN (S3) topped a successful athletics season for St Columba’s High School by winning gold in the shot putt (10.70m) at the Scottish Schools Track & Field Championships at Grangemouth.
It was an easy win for Gerelle, who beat the rest of her competitors by almost two metres.
In the same week Gerelle also won gold in both the shot putt and discus at the Fife Schools Championships.
She has only recently started training at Pitreavie AAC so with good coaching allied to Gerelle’s natural talent there are positive signs for her future athletics career.
Fellow pupil Rose Fagan collected a bronze medal in the hurdles at the Scottish Schools Track & Field Championships.
This followed a great two weeks of athletics which started with Ewan Dyer and Joe Miller (both S3) finishing first and second respectively in the Fife schools multi-event meeting.
A team of 41 pupils were at Pitreavie stadium to complete in the Fife schools track & field championships winning 21 medals. Gold medal winners were: Daniel McCool (S4) shot putt; Ewan Dyer (S3) 800m; Gerelle Pasquin shot putt and discus; Group B girls’ relay team (Rebecca Rennie, Olivia Clark, Hannah Simms & Lauren Philp) and Group C boys’ relay team (Ewan Dyer, Liam Krupej, Joe Millar and Luke Kelly).
As a result of their performances, Daniel McCool, Ewan Dyer and Gerelle Pasquin were selected for Fife schools and will compete in the Scottish Inter-District Championships later this month.
l At the Fife Schools Athletics Championships at Pitreavie Stadium Alexandra Bruce was first in the Group B girls’ shot putt; Craig Skiffington was first in the Group A boys’ 100m and 200m and Douglas Paul was first in the Group C boys’ long jump, high jump and 400m. Paul was also selected to represent Fife in the Scottish Schools under-15 Inter-Area Championships held at Grangemouth Stadium earlier this month.
