Murray mania comes to Dunfermline tennis club
THE city’s tennis club capitalised on Murray Mania over the past Wimbledon fortnight to host its first Dunfermline & District Inter-Schools tournament this week.
The inaugural tournament, for high school kids, was contested on Friday by 18 pupils from Queen Anne, Inverkeithing and Dunfermline high schools.
The kids were split into sections; S1-S3 boys, S1-S3 girls, S4-S6 boys and S4-S6 girls with three points awarded for each individual player’s victory.
The youngsters were able to play on the same courts that Wimbledon quarter-finalist Andy Murray used to hit on when mum Judy was a member of the Dunfermline club.
Aces from Queen Anne High were the first champions, closely followed by Inverkeithing, with Dunfermline in third.
“We hope to make this an annual event from now on with all five West Fife high schools competing,” a club spokeswoman told Press Sport.
