Pitreavie athlete wins Aberdour's Donkey Brae race

PITREAVIE’S Paul McCloskey (pictured) kept his cool amid Sunday’s sweltering temperatures to win the annual seven-mile Donkey Brae Run.
Despite the stifling heat there were 253 finishers in the race, staged at Aberdour’s Silver Sands.
McCloskey contested the lead with West Fife rival and Carnegie Harrier Ian Stewart until the three-mile mark before forging ahead to take the tape in 39 minutes 1 second. Stewart finished runner-up and leading M50 athlete in a time of 39:49.
Pitreavie had no fewer than five finishers in the top 13 and made up four of the top six as, behind McCloskey, Ewan Simpson was fourth in 40:17, Alex Keenan fifth in 41:35 and Clerc Koenck (right) sixth in 42:29 – the first female finisher.
Barry Davie was 13th in 44:13 while club mate Colin Beveridge was 35th in 48:07 and Martin Sleep 76th in 52:19. Patricia Vargas was the club’s second female finisher, clocking 56:33.
Carnegie Harrier Kevin Mathie made an excellent comeback run from injury to place 10th overall in 44:05 while fellow Harrier Fabienne Thompson won the female veteran award, covering the course in 48:34 to finish 39th overall.
Other Harriers times included Ian Mitchell (51:39), Stephen Greer (54:51) and Gillian McCracken (58:42).
