Pars girls win trophy
DUNFERMLINE Athletic Girls under-17s squad have added to their trophy cabinet by defeating Hibs girls to lift the Loch Lomond Youth Cup.
The girls beat Hibs Girls Colts, Gibralter United and Tayside Celtic in their group to reach the final, conceding only two goals and hitting the net an impressive 26 times.
The team faced Hibs girls in the final at Stirling University earlier this month whom they beat 2-0 after a nervous first half.
Two goals from Chantelle Munoz in the second 45 were enough to clinch victory for the Fifers.
The cup win follows the girls’ success in the Copa Catalonia tournament in Barcelona last month when they were pipped at the post by Norwegian side SK Freidig in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out in the final.
Manager Garry Herkes commented, “They’re a great bunch of girls to work with, they have been runners-up for so long but in my eyes they have always been winners. This one was thoroughly deserved.”
He continued, “There was a great sense of relief and jubilation from all the coaches and parents when the final whistle went.”
