DUNFERMLINE went down to Livingston in a hard-fought match at East End Park on Saturday.
Livi showed they meant business from the kick-off, and dangerman Leigh Griffiths hit the back of the net only after five minutes – but no goal was given as the flag had already gone up.
The visitors continued to press but the Pars coped well under pressure, with Paul Gallacher making a series of excellent saves.
However, he could not stop Griffiths firing Livi into the lead, when the striker tapped a ball in in front of an open goal five minutes before half-time.
Dunfermline came back more spirited after the break and a lovely long cross from Simon Wiles to Andy Kirk saw him head past Livi keeper Pierre Martini in the 53rd minute.
Both sides launched wave after wave of attacks and counterattacks, but it was Griffiths who punished Dunfermline's sloppy defending once again in the 75th minute when he twisted and turned his way around the box before putting it in past Gallacher for Livi to go up 2-1.
Dunfermline fought back and set up numerous good opportunities, but were unlucky not to score.
Manager Jim McIntyre said afterwards that he felt "very sore".
He added, "We pushed and pushed to try and get back into the game.
"We got a great equaliser – Kirkie hit the bar, Bell had a great chance, Bayne had a header – it just wasn't falling for us in front of goal. I'm very disappointed to lose the game."
