Rose give Hearts a footballing lesson
IF Kelty Hearts had any misconceptions about the difficulty of life in the East Region Super League they were solidly laid to rest after defeat by a superior Bonnyrigg Rose side on Saturday.
Hearts manager Stevie Leighton was quick to praise Bonnyrigg, who scored three goals in the first 25 minutes to put the game beyond reach for the home side.
He said, “We got caught on the counter attack. They are a good side and it is a learning curve for us in how to shape ourselves when defending and in how to deal with their pace and movement.”
Hearts’ sole reply came from Craig Morrison and Leighton was under no illusions as to how he wanted his side to perform in the future.
“They are the benchmark for how we have to perform every week,” he told Press Sport. “Without a doubt they are one of the top four teams in the division but we know we are capable of beating anyone.”
There is to be no let-up for Leighton’s troops, however, as this weekend they come up against a Camelon side that the manager rates equally as highly as Bonnyrigg.
“Every week you meet good teams in this league and it is important to pick up points, especially at home,” he said. “Last week we had six boys missing, which left us a bit short of options on the bench.
“However, we should have three or four boys back this week so I’m confident of doing well.”
In the East Region Premier League, Oakley manager John Allison was upbeat despite his side going down 2-0 at home to Arniston Rangers.
He said, “I thought we played and acquitted ourselves well and it was only two blunders that let us down. I hold my hands up for one of them but slowly we are getting there.”
Oakley travel to Blairgowrie on Saturday looking for a result.
“We are quietly confident and are determined to do well,” he said. “There is a thin line to success and we are just on the other side of that at the minute.”
In the East Region Central League, Rosyth will look to make it three wins out of three when they host Newburgh this Saturday after they ran out comfortable 4-1 winners away at Jeanfield.
Steelend Vics remain winless in the league this year after drawing 2-2 at Newburgh. They entertain Lochore Welfare this coming Saturday who went down 2-1 to Crossgates Primrose at Central Park in a match that saw three red cards. Crossgates are at home this week to Luncarty.
Saturdays fixtures: East Region Super League – Kelty Hearts v Camelon; East Region Premier League – Blairgowrie v Oakley United; East Region Central League – Rosyth v Newburgh, Steelend Vics v Lochore Welfare, Crossgates Primrose v Luncarty. (All kick-offs 2.30pm).
