Livingston 10 Dunfermline 30

DUNFERMLINE Rugby Club got their league campaign back on track on Saturday with a comfortable win at Livingston.

With the wet conditions and a Livingston team fired up with the inclusion of new recruits, Dunfermline started slowly only managing an Ali O’Connor penalty in the opening moments of the game.

This was quickly countered by Livingston when they turned some of the pressure into points with a try from ex-Currie centre Andy McMahon.

Dunfermline’s Kim MacGregor got his first try for the first team after a well-worked line out move. Shortly after, Dunfermline scored the best try of the game.

From a set piece they built phase after phase to the point where Livingston were simply running out of defenders and some simple handling allowed Grant Fraser to slice through for the second try, to give the visitors a 15-7 lead at the interval.

Dunfermline started the second half well putting the home side under pressure in the right area of the field and an O’Connor penalty extended the lead.

Next, Gareth McColl plunged over for his second try in two weeks giving Dunfermline some breathing space from a tiring Livingston.

Now Dunfermline’s target was the all important fourth try to secure a bonus point win.

Again, the game became scrappy and but for a couple of close forward pass calls the fourth try would have been scored with time to spare.

Dunfermline introduced new recruits Rob Hamilton and James Laurie and with 10 minutes to go Laurie dived over the give Dunfermline a deserved bonus point victory.

The McKane Park side face a testing few weeks with some tough-looking fixtures to play.

First up for Dunfermline is a big clash this weekend with a home game against Hillhead (kick-off 3pm).
