Pars may make loan swoop after skipper setback
PARS boss Jim McIntyre may have to plunder the loan market if skipper Scott Wilson faces weeks on the sidelines.
The big defender has hurt his hip in training and is definitely out of Saturday’s game with Partick Thistle and could also miss the match at Airdrie the week after.
He was due to have an injection in the area yesterday (Wednesday) and the next few days will be critical to determining how long the Pars will have to do without him.
The problem is unrelated to that which forced him to limp out of the 1-1 draw at Greenock at the end of September and McIntyre told Press Sport, “We need to see how he comes though and if he suffers a reaction.
“We’ll know in the next week or two. If Scott Wilson is going to be out for any length of time we’ll definitely need to strengthen in that department.
“Scott Thomson and Greg Shields have both had their injury problems so we definitely need some sort of cover.”
McIntyre has already used the loan system this season, bringing in Hibs kid Ross Campbell for a month as cover for strikers Graham Bayne and Andy Kirk.
That deal expires after Saturday’s match and McIntyre said this week, “I will speak to Hibs and Mixu (Paatelainen, Hibs boss) to see where we are with that.”
McIntyre was at Hampden Park last week to collect the first division manager of the month award for September (below) after an unbeaten month which also saw the Pars reach the last eight of the Co-op Cup with victory over SPL side St Mirren.
It’s the gaffer’s second award, having also won it in December for his first month in charge after replacing Stephen Kenny, and he admitted he was “delighted” to get it.
But he said, “It’s just an indication of how well the players have done.
“At the end of the day it might say my name on it but it’s an award for everyone here. The staff and the players have been first class. I’m pleased that we’ve managed to have a decent first nine games.”
Never-say-die draws at Dundee and Morton especially helped win him the award and that’s come from compulsory squad days out introduced by the manager.
“I think it’s good just to relax now and again and forget about the hurly-burly of work,” he explained.
“We see each other every day in a working environment so it’s good to spend a day together away from work, chill out and have a laugh.
“We’re actually due another one soon. The last day out we had was up at St Andrew’s Bay where we had a golf day.
“It’s important for the boys to bond on and off the park.
“Greg Shields was decent but we’ve a few decent golfers. There’s a few bandit handicaps as well.”
