Pars go joint top with win over Jags
Dunfermline 1 Partick Thistle 0
DUNFERMLINE went joint top of the First Division with a well-deserved win over Partick Thistle at East End Park on Saturday.
A goal from Andy Kirk right in front of goal 10 minutes before the break lifted the Pars to their highest position in the league this season, in an match that could have seen the home side finish with a much more impressive goal difference.
The Pars controlled the tempo from the start, enjoying the lion’s share of possession with sharp, creative play – exemplified in the flowing series of passes from Kevin Harper to Greg Ross, then Nicky Phinn, which resulted in Kirk’s sitter.
Dunfermline had a further five stellar chances to increase their lead – Stephen Glass shot one overhead, Harper unleashed a terrific blast then made a great solo run, Calum Woods’ header glanced off the crossbar, and Simon Wiles had a Chris Iwelumo-esque moment.
Manager Jim McIntyre said it was a “very good” result, and said he thought the home side “were worthy of another couple” of goals.
However, he added, “It’s only 10 games into a long season. It’s just important that we try and get as much out of the season as we can – try and get a consistent run together.
“That’s three home victories, so it’s very important that you try and build on your home form if you are going to do anything, but we’re just pleased to have won the game. Thistle is always a difficult game.”
