DUNFERMLINE Cricket Club are in defiant mood despite losing their promotion-winning player coach alongside their two overseas players.
The triple blow came when Aussie coach Steve Fryer, who skippered the team to promotion last season, accepted a coaching job in Brisbane while pro Colin Ingram and amateur Matt Jones opted not to return to the McKane Park club.
Club spokesman Tom Gibson, told the Press, “It’s disappointing but it’s certainly not doom and gloom.”
While the club have known for some weeks that Fryer was returning to a coaching job with Brisbane, they had been waiting to hear from Springbok Ingram for six weeks, only to receive an email stating he would not be returning.
The club was hopeful Jones would return to stay over the winter for the 183 days required to register him as a local player however, with the Australian cricket season just starting, he has decided to remain Down Under.
Gibson commented, “It’s not ideal because we thought all three guys would be in the side again next season.
“I don’t think we will get another player-coach for next year as we won’t have time to register him as a local player to enable him to play.
“We are looking to replace the other two and have feelers out with agents around the world.
“We are just biding our time.”
