QUEEN Anne High School’s under-13 girls’ road relay team has become the first state school team to win the Scottish Power Secondary Schools Road Relay Championship for 14 years.
Louise Russell, Katey Turner and Rachel Hunter were not put off by the cold as pupils from across the country came together to compete for gold at Grangemouth.
They beat Hutcheson’s Grammar and Glasgow School of Sport with a time of 18 minutes 30 seconds in what was the final event of the ScottishPower athletics calendar.
Louise ran a good first leg, handing over 200 metres behind the leader. Katey ran next and handed over just in the lead, closely followed by a bunch of athletes.
Rachel then sat on the shoulder of the Hutcheson Grammar athlete and, with 400 metres to go, she sprinted past to win by 10 seconds.
