Post Office consultation was a sham
AS circumstances prevented my attendance at the consultation meeting organised by Willie Rennie, I wrote to the Post Office, in the strongest possible terms, outlining all the difficulties and disadvantages the closure of Transy Post Office would entail, not only for residents in the immediate vicinity but in Dunfermline at large.
After a considerable delay I received a “reply”, which, as it addressed not one of my many objections, was clearly a standard letter, composed in advance of any protest.
Incensed and definitely not mollified by this totally discourteous treatment, I then wrote to the Ombudsman for Scotland, enclosing a copy of the correspondence. The Ombudsman – who turned out to be an Ombudswoman – replied reasonably quickly, informing me that she had no responsibility for this matter, and advised me to contact “Postwatch”, at Heriot University.
This I immediately did, and I have since been “watching my post”, all too fruitlessly!
I have since learned, indirectly, that despite a huge public protest, with the full support of our local MP, Transy Post Office is to close.
It is now abundantly apparent that the whole “consultation process” was a complete and shameful sham. In the teeth of public opinion, it was always going to close.
