Comic who courts controversy set for city gig
BRITAIN"S most controversial comedian is coming to Dunfermline.
Roy Chubby Brown will play at the Alhambra Theatre on 3rd July.
'It will certainly be controversial,' said Dunfermline City Centre Management Committee chairman Bill Fletcher. 'People will parade outside saying "Down with this".
'He courts controversy. It"s innovative for the Alhambra. It shows we are prepared to raise the bar.'
Mr Fletcher said it was a 'major coup' to get Brown, 'one of the biggest names on the comedy circuit', to make his debut Dunfermline performance in the first month of shows at the newly re-opened theatre.
'He has a big fan base in the area,' he said. 'He usually plays in Edinburgh and this shows the importance of the Alhambra.'
Brown has toured the globe for the past 20 years with a show that is a mix of songs, jokes and dances.
'It"s very Bernard Manning,' said Mr Fletcher. 'He is the premier comedian in Britain today. He can be racist, he can be sexist but it"s just an act. A lot of folk like that in a comedian.'
His gig, which comes branded with a warning for those 'easily offended to stay away', will come just weeks after shows at the venue by local legends Nazareth and KT Tunstall on 7th and 10th June respectively.
Mr Fletcher said that Brown"s gig fitted into a broad spectrum of forthcoming shows at the venue that ranged from rock music to opera and ballet.
The Press can also reveal that two West End smash hits, "Abba Mania" and "One Night of Queen", are also set to hit the venue in September.
Tickets for Brown"s gig can be bought from Third Base, the Dunfermline Tourist Information Office and www.ticketweb.co.uk
