A DUNFERMLINE ballerina is bringing her experience on the international stage home to help West Fife youngsters with their dancing skills.

Kirsty Smith (20), who has danced with Miami City Ballet, the National Ballet Company of Latvia, Northwest Pacific Ballet and Scottish Ballet, says she wanted to get kids enthusiastic about dance and help train them for the big league.

Kirsty, who has just gained a first class honours in Dance Education at London’s Royal Academy of Dance, explained, “I want to encourage them and lift them and give them a goal.

“For years I have seen so much potential for dance in Scotland with too little being done to develop it.”

The former Dunfermline High School student said she hoped to nurture the standards practised in the international companies she has worked in with her West Fife students.

She recalled, “It was amazing, it was a different league. You learn so much and the organisation is so sleek.”

Kirsty holds youth dance classes in Torryburn and Melody Bear Movement classes at the Starlet Dance School in Dunfermline.

She said she wants to open her own West Fife dance school eventually.
