DUNFERMLINE group Taylor Kayne have been regulars on the West Fife music scene in recent years but are hoping 2008 will see them hit the big time.

The three-piece outfit are taking part in the Youth Music Initiative, organised by Rosyth’s Sub Station recording studio.

The initiative will see a number of young Fife groups get the chance to record a demo at the studio before their work is sent to music bosses for consideration.

Last week, the Press reported on Inverkeithing band Chairman Wow and this week it was Taylor Kayne’s turn to enter the studio on Monday and Tuesday.

“We’re sort of punky and poppy but I don’t really know what you could say we’re like,” laughed singer and guitarist Joanne Clark (25).

“We’re quite serious about the music, though, and we’ve been going for a little while now.”

Along with Joanne, the band’s line-up consists of her sister, Nix (21) on drums, and childhood friend Steven Jeffrey (21) on bass.

The trio have been playing together for almost two years and, despite the Clark sisters both attending university in Glasgow, they have played throughout Scotland.

And, if things go well, they could be ready to quit university and take on the music business full time.

“We’re looking to move things on a stage with this,” Joanne continued. “We’ll see what happens.

“We’re looking at it as a way to get some good gigs and some experience and meet people. Hopefully the record deal will follow.”

Joanne is also hoping she might bump into one of Sub Station’s more famous clients while they record their demo.

“We’ve not ran into Idlewild yet but fingers crossed,” she joked.

Mick Brennan, owner of Sub Station, added that he had been impressed by the “hard work” put in by Taylor Kayne to progress their careers.

“I know they’ve been gigging all over Scotland and hopefully this will push them to the next level,” he said.
