Sightseeing Rome: Making the Most of the Eternal City
When it comes to sightseeing Rome has an incredible amount to offer - from the Colisseum to St Peter's Basilica to the lively Campo de' Fiori, to the vast, beautiful Piazza Navona. And it's not every day you get to see more than two and half thousands years of history laid out before you.
One way of making the most of your stay in the mesmerising Eternal City, particularly if time is limited, is an open-top bus tour. This gives you the freedom to jump off at the places you want to visit before hopping back on board.
There's a commentary so you can learn about the things you are passing. And although when you go sightseeing Rome has good public transport, if you travel by open-top bus you will see places as you go. These bus trips are also excellent value.
Taking one of these tours also means you can focus on what you are seeing, rather than worrying about directions or how to get around.
Rome is a relatively small place, despite being crammed with things to see and do, so you can get a good feel for the place quickly. It may not have been built in a day, but you'd be amazed what you can pack into 48 hours here!
If you're on a budget, there are ways of saving money. Drink your coffee at the bar like a local, rather than sitting down in a café. Avoid restaurants in touristy areas - there are inexpensive options for buying sandwiches or pizza by the slice. Picnic items and bottled water are also better value if bought in supermarkets.
Another tactic for saving money is to choose one or two museums or monuments to visit and then just wander around. If you do plan on visiting various locations or using public transport for your sightseeing Rome offers combination tickets and discount passes.
