THE Alhambra Theatre will be reaching out to strengthen its bonds with the West Fife public over the summer months with several initiatives aimed at getting people of all ages involved in new pursuits.

Low-priced tickets such as £2 (under-16s) for the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and £5 concessions for the Scottish Opera will open up access to a wide range of top-class performances.

Marketing co-ordinator Hollie Wegner-Jaszkin said, "There will be something for everyone in the coming months, whether it be musical theatre masterclasses, classical music, youth theatre summer projects or dancing extravaganzas.

"All have a strong link with the local community and are designed to showcase the outstanding local talent present in Fife." Participation is the key this weekend at the Les Misérables Masterclass, a two-day course for anyone wishing to expand and enhance their performance skills.

The £50 cost compares to the £250 it would cost for the course in London and includes taking part in the show, 'Beyond the Barricade', songs from the West End musicals performed by past principal performers for Les Misérables.

On Saturday 3rd July, some of Fife's best young dancers will be taking part in 'Dancing the Musicals', a spectacular gala evening which is a flagship event of Celebrating Fife 2010.

Around 14 dance schools will be involved and confirmed performers include the current Scottish Amateur Ballroom Champions and Youth Music Theatre Scotland.

Another great opportunity for young dancers to grab the limelight is the Billy Elliot Youth Theatre Experience.

This will be the first time this powerful story will be told by young people from Fife, who will be working with an experienced professional team from Youth Music Theatre Scotland.

The company will meet in Dunfermline each day to rehearse and develop the performance from 10am to 5pm.

There will also be some evening rehearsals.

The project will run from 17th to 31st July culminating in performances at the theatre from 29th to 31st July.

Places are limited and for more details call the Billy Elliot hotline on 07716 588346.
