FUNBOX is a new children’s entertainment company created from the ashes of Fife’s popular show The Singing Kettle.

With hopes of becoming just as well-known and successful as The Singing Kettle, Anya Scott-Rodgers, Kevin Macleod, Gary Coupland MBE and Bonzo the dog have developed the family show which focuses on opening parts of a Funbox with keys the audience need clues to find.

Ahead of their opening show at Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith Theatre on 10th-12th April, Kevin took time out of preparations to speak to Press:ON reporter Hayley Parr about the show.

He said, “This will be our first proper show. It will be nice to get back to what we do best and that is performing, there has been a lot of business tasks to do and we are looking forward to getting on that stage again!

“We all found out last year that The Singing Kettle was not going to be going on much further and we firstly tried to buy it and the name but it was shutting down completely.

“The three of us thought that we were just making a connection with the audience so we decided to set up a company of our own and the first thing we asked was – can we have the dog?!

“So Bonzo also came on board, he’s getting old now, he must be about 12 or 13!

“We then starting writing the show and started pitching to venues and festivals and they were happy to take us on.

“We would love for it to be as big as The Singing Kettle. A big part of that was the merchandise, which was very successful. We would love to start having more interactive merchandise like apps, kids are so tech-savvy nowadays!

Speaking about the content of the show Kevin explained, “The show was developed along with the idea of finding keys. Without giving too much away there is a 12-foot-high Funbox and the keys are scattered about and behind each part which can be opened with one of these keys is an adventure, a song, or ‘Funsters’.

“It is a great quality show for kids and adults.

“We set up a Crowdfund to help with costs and we were overwhelmed by the support we had. We had a target of around £20,000 and we made £10,000 in the first day of it going live!

“There were lovely stories of kids going into their piggy banks and it is amazing!” Some of the songs featured in the Pirates and Princesses show by Funbox include Over The Irish Sea, Eely Ally O, There Was a Princess Long Ago, My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean and What Shall We Do with The Drunken Sailor, alongside brand-new songs.

Tickets for the show cost £12, tickets for a family of four cost £44. For more information or to buy tickets visit www.onfife.com or call 01592 583302.
