TWO of Dunfermline’s finest up-and-coming bands will perform to thousands of music fans when Scotland’s biggest festival begins this weekend.

Some of the industry’s top stars will take to the stage at T in the Park and they will be joined by talented West Fife duo ForeignFox and the Domiciles, who will play on the ‘T Break’ stage.

The Stone Roses, Calvin Harris and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers are just some of the big-name headline acts that will perform at Strathallan Castle from tomorrow until Sunday, and both Dunfermline bands have been given the chance to strut their stuff in front of up to 70,000 revellers that are expected to descend on Perthshire over the three days.

ForeignFox and Domiciles were two of 16 bands to be hand-picked by a panel of Scotland’s music industry experts from almost 1,000 entries to play the T Break stage, which was launched in 1996 to uncover the country’s freshest unsigned talent and give them a platform to showcase their talents.

The initiative, led by Tennent’s Lager, saw acts submit demos in March with the hope of landing a coveted slot on the bill and Jonny Watt, lead singer with ForeignFox, told Press:ON: “It is starting to feel real now and the hype around it helps as well. We got the call two weeks before the announcement and it was the longest two weeks of my life because we had to keep it to ourselves!

“When we were back in the practice room, we were able to feed off each other with the excitement, and it is recognition for all our hard work. It had seemed that long since we entered that we’d put it to the back of our minds but when we got the call, it was amazing. But I don’t think it will properly hit us until we’re in the field at Strathallan, can smell the manure and see drunk punters dancing about in mankinis!”

He added: “We’re trying to get better with each show and, hopefully, at T we’ll be on our game. It thrusts you to the forefront of the Scottish scene and gives you a lot of clout when it comes to booking other shows; you’ve got that credibility behind you.

“The Dunfermline music scene has come on leaps and bounds in the last three or four years and it’s great we get to share it with Domiciles. We’ll go for a party afterwards!”

Nick Young, leader singer of the Domiciles, said: “It’s a great platform to champion underground music, so we’re really chuffed. We weren’t expecting it and, to be honest, had forgot we’d applied for it! We were recording a few weeks ago when we got the call and we were all totally buzzing, especially as it’s only been just over a year that we’ve started putting stuff out. You get bands who work for a couple of years before they get to that stage and it’s a big compliment.”

Domiciles will be the first of the Dunfermline duo to perform when they hit the stage on Saturday, with ForeignFox live on Sunday.
