Two Edinburgh-based comics make the short trip to Dunfermline next week to hone their shows before the Fringe.

Vastly experienced Vladimir McTavish and the madcap Jellybean Martinez both appear at The Hub at 82 High Street on Saturday July 16.

Vladimir, real name Paul Sneddon, is also known to audiences as the character Bob Doolally, a boozy former football manager and TV pundit.

A regular in the annual ‘Best of Scottish’ comedy showcase at the Fringe, he was the driving force behind the highly successful live current affairs comedy show, ‘A Kick Up The Tabloids’.

In 2005 his Edinburgh show, '60 Things Scotland Gave The World', was a critically acclaimed sell-out.

This time he'll treat us to ‘Scotland in Sixty Minutes’ and he said, “At the start of this year I turned 60 so I’ve got a bus pass now and the theme is travelling around Scotland.”

Paul laughed: “I suppose it should be called s*** times in Scotland in 60 minutes. That doesn’t include Dunfermline of course.”

After his warm-up gig in Dunfermline, he'll perform throughout August at The Stand in Edinburgh, one of Scotland’s longest established comedy venues.

“It’s open all year round and so has much more of a Scottish audience,” said Paul.

“I’m one of the few comedians at the Fringe who actually come from Edinburgh. There’s not many of us.

“It’s good for me because I get to be home for a month and sleep in my own bed. It’s also great to have so many friends coming here from all over the world.”

Paul starts working on his Fringe show around January/February and keeps adding and adjusting material up to August.

“There’s a lot of things you think will be great but doesn’t work out. Luckily, the opposite is true as well. Some material you may think at first is rubbish has them rolling about. You never know until you try it out before an audience," he explained.

Jellybean Martinez, also known as Matthew Ellis, first tried comedy when he moved from his home in Aberdeen to study in Edinburgh.

“There was a guy started a comedy night at the halls of residence. I eventually gave it a go but I was just another white middle class comedian talking rubbish," he smiled.

He later took on the persona of Jellybean, a wannabe Spanish pop star.

Asked to describe his show, he said, “Somebody told me it’s mental but a good mental. It’s silly, mad nonsense and definitely no politics.

“It’s good to see the reaction when you have no friends in the audience.”

His show ‘The S***e Club’ will show a different side to Matthew’s talents to his previous Dunfermline appearances which were in the Carnegie Hall Christmas show for the past two years.

The Fringe preview shows take place from Thursday 14 to Saturday July 16.

The Saturday line-up is: 6-7pm Robin Grainger: A Year and a Day; 7.30-8.30pm Jellybean Martinez: S***e Club; 9-10pm Vladimir McTavish: Scotland in 60 Minutes.
