A famous Dunfermline-born jazz guitarist and composer is returning to Fife as part of the Aberdour Festival.

After being brought up in Abbeyview, David MacGregor now finds himself living in Mexico, and has been travelling the world performing in America and across Europe.

The 31-year-old is now making his way home to Fife to perform alongside classical guitarist Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas. The pair met four years ago and their duet project, 'Classical Meets Jazz', will be presented for the first time at the festival.

They will perform a masterclass and avant-garde concert combining classical music and jazz next Wednesday.

David told the Press: "We're both looking forward to it - I go up here and it's always amazing. I'm hoping for a real warm and listening crowd. I've had great crowds like that all over the place. UK people are a bit more reserved usually. In America people are a lot more enthralled. They're definitely more excited generally, than in the UK. Maybe cause it's a Scottish guy playing guitar - people in America are mad for Scotland! It's like a fairytale to them over there!"

"We feed off each other's energy and ideas and the show is completely improvised - so every show is different. We're going to be playing some new material on the night as well."

He is encouraging young musicians to pursue their dreams and not to be put off by others.

David said: "I had good parents who encouraged me to do what I wanted to do and that's important. When you have dreams, and you set out to have a career that's quite intense or different, it's easy for people to discourage them. I experienced that a little bit when growing up, thankfully if you're in Dunfermline it's not so common as a lot of bands have roots here."

Keen to give back to the town he grew up in, David, alongside Ahmed, will host a free masterclass on Tuesday, in Kenny's Music, Elgin Street, Dunfermline, at 7pm. He's hoping for a good turnout so he can offer a wealth of knowledge of the music industry accumulated through 12 years as a professional, to aspiring musicians from Fife.

He said: "It's good to get to know the people a little bit. And what they want to do with guitar, and whether they want to make a career out of it or a living and to give advice after hearing where they are and what they want to achieve. Participation from the audience will give them the chance to get what they want out of it."

The concert will take place in the festival marquee from 7.30pm-11.30pm and tickets, which include nibbles, charcuterie, a cheese platter and wine, cost £15.
