The life of entertainment phenomenon Cilla Black is being given the stage musical treatment in Rhyl this summer.

Many a fond memory of the much-missed presenter of Blind Date and Surprise, Surprise will be fondly rekindled when Cilla: The Musical visits the Pavilion for five-night run this August.

The show will stage the story told in the critically acclaimed ITV biopic starring Sheridan Smith, made shortly after Cilla’s death in 2015, with a brand new cast to recreate and plenty of showstopping tunes to recreate the Zeitgeist of the star’s dizzying ascent through the swinging sixties and beyond.

This spectacular and heart-warming musical adaptation is scored with the ultimate soundtrack of the period, including The Beatles' Twist and Shout, The Mamas and the Papas’ California Dreamin’ and, of course, Cilla’s greatest hits, Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie and Something Tells Me.

The story of Priscilla White becoming national treasure Cilla Black all begins with an introduction by a young John Lennon to music mogul and former Beatles manager Brian Epstein.

By the age of just 25, she would be a number one-selling artist and at the forefront of the pop music scene.

The musical opened at the Liverpool Empire in Cilla’s home city last year before hitting the road, with Kara Lily Hayworth in the title role.

The Watford actress landed her first major lead part after queuing for four hours at London’s Dominion Theatre to audition and then beating off opposition from thousands of rivals.

Robert Willis, Cilla’s son, said, “We wanted somebody who wasn’t going to impersonate my mum but someone who could capture her spirit.

"Kara came in with her huge personality and amazing voice – when I saw the response of the audience at the Cavern, I knew she was the one my mum would have wanted.”

The show runs at the Pavilion from August 21-25 at at 7.30pm, with additional 2.30pm showings on August 22, 23 25.

Tickets cost between £30.50 and £36.50. To book, call 01745 330000 or visit rhylpavilion.co.uk
