KIND-HEARTED kids at Torryburn Primary School raised £250 by organising a Macmillan coffee morning for the community.

Parents, grandparents and former pupils were welcomed into the school last Thursday and enjoyed the drinks and home baking while helping to raise money for the cancer charity.

Head teacher Jillian Mellis said: “The Macmillan coffee morning and cancer research is very close to our hearts here in Torryburn and we are extremely proud to say we raised over £250 we know will be well received.

“We were delighted to welcome lots of parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles, and as well as previous pupils who attended Torryburn School many years ago when it was a primary and secondary school.

“The pupil council led the event right from the beginning, initially contacting Macmillan, putting posters up all over Torryburn and High Valleyfield, creating flyers and asking for donations of home baking. Our school cook, Mary, was a wonderful support to us and her cakes were gone first. We welcomed so much home baking, we were able to sell it to pupils on Thursday and Friday, all for a fantastic cause.

“Thanks to all of our helpers and well done to the pupil council members Hannah, Joseph, Ellie, Carla, Luca, Beth, Eme and Lucy, who were visibly shattered by the end of the day!”

Members of the Link Living Group, who meet weekly in Torryburn Community Centre, were also among those who enjoyed a cuppa with pupils, who visit weekly and work with the group on projects such as knitting, arm-chair Zumba and arts and crafts.

“The pupils from Torryburn will be working with the group over the next few weeks to create living memory books focusing on school days long ago,” added Mrs Mellis.

“Many members of the Link Living Group came to Torryburn School and have amazing stories to tell. Pupils will be interviewing them and creating transcripts of their experiences.”
