TEMPORARY parking measures will be put in at the Inverkeithing High School campus following the October holidays.

A £1million upgrade programme at Inverkeithing Nursery, which will include a new extension, entrance, windows and general refurbishment, is set to get under way next week and continue into May 2016.

To allow this necessary upgrade work to go ahead at the nursery, a number of permanent and temporary changes to access routes to the high school and nursery are being put in place from the start of next term.

Preliminary work, which will allow the main refurbishment to take place safely, will result in permanent improvements to the high school/community use site.

These permanent improvements are: • Railings on the pavement adjacent to the community centre.

• A zebra crossing to allow pupils to cross from the school to the community use building safely.

• New signage stating 5mph within the school site.

• Additional lighting to improve safety in the evenings.

• A new layby on the road at the community wing.

Temporary traffic measures will also be put in place until the end of the building works, including a temporary car park for high school teaching staff at the rear of the school, adjacent to the community use building.

All teachers will be issued with a pass to allow them to enter the school site, and out of school hours, the car park will be available to those using the community use facility.

School buses will pick-up/drop-off at the bus park as per their normal routine, but there will be no access for high school pupil pick-up/drop-off.

Visitors to the school will require a pass and all others will be stopped at the main gate and asked to park outwith the school grounds.

There will be no change for primary school staff, who will continue to use their own car park for the duration of the works.

Primary and nursery pupils can be picked up or dropped off at the primary school car park, although it's expected to be busier than usual with work taking place.

Louise Playford, Fife Council school estate service manager, said: “We appreciate that these works will create an inconvenience for some high school and community use customers.

“However, these temporary changes are necessary to ensure the safety of everyone in the area , while this vital work is going ahead.

“We encourage our pupils, staff and parents to use sustainable travel anyway and this might be a good time to reconsider travel arrangements.

“Try leaving the car at home and consider walking, cycling or car sharing. This not only cuts down on potential congestion but it’s a great way to get fit while helping look after the environment too.

“I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience while this work is carried out, but ultimately the improvements will be a very worthwhile investment for the whole community. “
