BRAVE Crossgates nurse Pauline Cafferkey who survived a battle with Ebola has been re-admitted to hospital with an "unusual late complication".

Earlier this year Pauline, 39, spent weeks in a critical condition as she fought for her life against the deadly virus which she contracted in Sierra Leone volunteering as a healthcare worker. After taking a heart-stopping turn for the worse, she eventually recovered and was released from hospital at the end of January.

Pauline was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow on Tuesday after feeling unwell. During this time she was treated in the infectious diseases unit.

In the early hours of this morning, she was transferred to the Royal Free Hospital due to an unusual late complication of her previous infection by the Ebola virus.

A spokesperson for the Royal Free said: "She will now be treated in isolation in the hospital’s high level isolation unit under nationally agreed guidelines.

"The Ebola virus can only be transmitted by direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person while they are symptomatic so the risk to the general public remains low and the NHS has well established and practised infection control procedures in place."
