POLICE will post leaflets through the doors of 3500 Dunfermline homes in a bid to catch the killer of Duncan Banks.

Officers launched the campaign this morning following a press conference which saw mother Dorothy Banks make a heartfelt plea for information about the murder of her son.

DCI Keith Hardie, part of the major investigation team, said that raising awareness could play a key role in encouraging people to come forward.

“We're targeting about 3500 houses in the local area," he said. "Our house-to-house enquiries where we knock on the doors are all line-of-sight in Skye Road because we're looking for anyone who has seen anything suspicious. When you take it wider, it's just about raising awareness.

"It's amazing how many people don't watch the television, don't listen to the radio, don't read newspapers, so 3500 of these leaflets going through doors might reach somebody who isn't aware of what's going on and might have some information which might be useful to us."

Police launched their investigation more than a fortnight ago after the body of Mr Banks was found in his Skye Road flat on Monday, September 28. The 39-year-old sustained multiple head injuries caused by an unidentified weapon and officers have been carrying out searches in the Abbeyview area to try to locate it.

Crimestoppers is also offering a reward of up to £10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the murder.
