POLICE in Dunfermline are hailing the success of the first week of winter safety checks and are encouraging drivers to make the most of the initiative.
And the Press helped play a part, with 11 of the 19 motorists that visited finding out about it through the paper!
Community officers carried out the free checks at Dunfermline Police Station every morning last week, with officers giving advice and guidance – and no fines or enforcement.
Of the 19 vehicles that were checked, one had an illegal tyre, nine tyres were advised to be on the brink, two had flat tyres that needed repaired and three had broken or ineffective windscreen wipers.
There are more checks taking place between 10am and noon from Monday, December 14 to Thursday, December 17 and Sunday, January 3 to Friday, January 8.
All drivers have to do is turn up at the front car park at the station at 2 Holyrood Place and their car’s winter-readiness will be assessed and some simple winter safety advice given.
