ATTRACTIONS from Star Wars and The Game of Thrones will be centre stage when Dunfermline holds its first-ever Comic Con.

There will also be a treat for Dr Who fans with an exclusive comic marking the West Fife show with a special commemorative cover.

The convention, on Saturday, March 5 at the Glen Pavilion, will bring some of the world’s top comic creative talent to the town.

There will be a replica Iron Throne from ‘The Game of Thrones’ where visitors can sit and have their photo taken, a 501st Legion Star Wars re-enactment and a ‘Weapons from the Movies’ display.

The event is being organised in a collaboration between Little Shop of Heroes comic store, which opened in the town centre just over three years ago, and Dunfermline Delivers.

It promises to be an enjoyable family and a colourful occasion with comic expected to arrive in a wide range of costumes.

One of the comic creators who will be present will be West Fife’s own Claire Roe, a highly-talented artist who is gaining widespread recognition in the comic world.

The Iron Throne is the only HBO-authorised replica throne in the UK and is making its first appearance in Scotland.

There will be the chance to speak to writers and artists including Mike Collins, Jamie Delano, Claire Roe, Monty Nero, Simon Spurrier, Yishan Li, Alex Paknadel and Neil Slorance.

Little Shop of Heroes owner Alby Grainger said: “I’ve been at Comic Con across the UK from London to Aberdeen and enjoyed them all but I know there’s a lot of people in Fife who haven’t travelled to one.

“It may be purely that they’ve heard of them but don’t think it’s for people like them, that it’s for a specific group of people. I don’t think that’s the case any more, there’s something for everyone.

“The main thing about Comic Cons is they’re great fun. There’s lots of goodies if you want to buy them but at the same time you can have a great day meeting people, speaking to writers, looking at the displays and costumes without spending anything more than the admission price.

“We are planning to make this an annual event here in Dunfermline and I don’t see why it can’t become the best event of its kind in Scotland.”

Chris Foote, events organiser for Dunfermline Delivers, said: “We are delighted to be involved in working on this event. It's something new for Dunfermline and Fife and I’m sure it will attract people from all over."

Tickets are on sale at £5 from Little Shop of Heroes, Maygate, Dunfermline and online at Facebook.com/DunfermlineComicCon.
