BUDDING musicians at St Margaret's Primary School in Dunfermline got to show off their super strumming skills with a ukulele showcase at the Fife Music Festival.

The Primary 5 pupils performed 'You Cannae Shove Your Granny Off The Bus' to a delighted audience, showing off the hard work they've been putting in at their lunchtime rehearsals.

Teacher Colm Murray is proud of the effort the youngsters have shown and thinks the experience was good for them.

"The school starts the ukulele club from P5 and there are three in the school just now," he said. "The new P5s started just six weeks before Christmas and have been learning the basic chords and building up to songs.

"The other two classes performed at the Christmas concerts but we weren't quite ready for it then so we've been building up to the Fife Music Festival.

"We thought we could achieve it and the children have been practising and doing extra lunchtime sessions.

"They wanted to show off the skills and progress they've made and there was a good excitement and buzz. It was great for them to see other schools and what they were doing and get the platform to show off.

"I'm quite musical anyway, I play the guitar, so I picked up the ukulele quite quickly. I teach the children but I'm learning with them at the same time. It's been inspiring for them learning about it, seeing the difference between the ukulele and the guitar and exploring the history of it.

"They're totally into it. They're really enthusiastic and it's great to offer them that opportunity and for them to express an interest in music. They started before Christmas and it was a nice gift to a lot of them who asked for ukuleles for Christmas to practise with at home!"
